Technology Commercialization and Technology Transfer Protection

On the 21st of June 2011 the Lviv Polytechnic National University organized a roundtable on “Technology Commercialization and Technology Transfer Protection”. With over 60 participants, including representatives of Science Technology Centre in Ukraine (STCU), representative of US Department of Energy program "Global Initiatives for Prevention of Arms of Mass Distraction Proliferation”, representatives of US national research laboratories; Scientists of Lviv Polytechnic National University and PhD students; officials of Lviv Polytechnic National University including vice-rector for science and officers of Centre for Innovation Development; representatives of other Lviv Universities (Institute Cell Biology, Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko etc.); representatives of US Civilian Research and Development Fund (CRDF); representatives of Lviv Local Government; and representatives of Institute for Intellectual Property and Law.
The round table was initiated by the Science Technology Centre in Ukraine (STCU) and the following key issues where presents and discussed:
- The opportunities for the Ukrainian scientists and the research institutions to apply for research grants to Science Technology Centre in Ukraine (presented by STCU Deputy Executive Director Viktor Korsun).
- The ongoing projects financed by Science Technology Centre in Ukraine and accomplished in collaboration between Ukrainian partners and US National Laboratories. Among the presented projects were the following: Flash Butt Welding (Paton Welding – Kyiv), Advanced Biomass Grinding (Texmet – Dnipropetrovsk), Treatment and Elimination of Polymeric Biofilm Formed by Dangerous Pathogens (Odessa Anti-Plague Institute), Ultra Dosimeter to Monitor the capacity for Vitamin-D synthesis of Sunlight (Institute of Physics), Alternative Method for Producing Medical Isotopes (Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology), Straw-Fired Boilers in Ukraine (Institute of Engineering Thermophysics – Kyiv).
- The opportunities for the Ukrainian scientists and the research institutions o apply for research grants to US Civilian Research and Development Fund (CRDF),
- Technology Transfer Offices in the USA – activities and methodologies.
